How long have you been involved in athletics?
I’ve been involved in athletics for 25 years, and in that time, I’ve seen plenty of races, training sessions, and podium finishes. The sport has been a huge part of my life, shaping my competitive nature and keeping me pushing for the next challenge.

What is your favourite event or discipline?
The 4-mile race is my favourite event. It’s a great mix of speed and endurance—long enough to test your stamina but short enough to go all out from the start.

What is your greatest achievement in athletics so far?
Winning the County 10-Mile Trophy with Moycarkey Coolcroo AC was a standout moment. It was the first time the club won it, and being part of that historic victory made all the hard work worthwhile.

Who is your biggest inspiration in the sport?
Ciara Mageean is someone I really admire. Her determination, resilience, and ability to compete at the highest level make her a fantastic role model for Irish athletes.

What motivates you to keep training and competing?
I love the competitive side of athletics, but more than that, I want to win silverware for the club. Seeing the team succeed and being part of those big moments is what keeps me lacing up my runners.

What does a typical training week look like for you?
At the moment, I’m running 4 to 5 miles a day, with a longer run on Sundays of around 10 to 12 miles. Consistency is key, and keeping the mileage up helps build endurance for race day.

How do you prepare mentally before a big competition?
I try not to overthink the event too much. The training is done, and stressing about it won’t help. Staying relaxed and trusting my preparation is the best approach.

What’s your most memorable moment in your athletics career?
Winning the County Novice Road Race was a big highlight. The buzz of crossing the finish line first and knowing all the training paid off is something I’ll never forget.

What do you do outside of athletics (e.g., job, hobbies)?
I’m a big sports fan, so when I’m not running, I’m usually watching soccer or GAA. I also enjoy listening to music—sometimes a good playlist is all you need to power through a long run!

What is your favourite food or pre-race meal / or routine?
Pasta carbonara with chicken is my go-to meal. It’s got the right balance of carbs and protein to fuel up before a race.

Do you have a favourite brand of running shoes or gear?
I mainly wear wellingtons, but I also like Nike running shoes—they just work for me. For clothing, I like Asics gear; it’s comfortable and durable for long training sessions.

What’s your advice for someone just starting in athletics?
Stick with it, even on the tough days. Progress takes time, and the key is consistency. The rewards come when you push through the hard sessions.

What’s your go-to recovery routine after training or races?
A nice, slow cooldown is essential after a race. It helps the legs recover and sets me up for the next session.

How do you stay focused during long or tough training sessions?
I always set a target beforehand and do my best to stick to it. Having a clear goal for each session keeps me motivated, even when it gets tough.

What are your goals for the upcoming season or future in athletics?
I want to help the club put together a team that can challenge for silverware at both county and Munster level. Being part of a winning team is the ultimate goal!
